There was a beautiful benefit program for residents at The Columns in Jonesville on December 15,2019 at Flora John’s Place on Highway 84 in Jonesville.
In our program we honored our oldest Black Women and Men.
Mrs. Lena J. Branch is 99 years old. She was a teacher for about 41 years in the school system. She was secretary of her church, Greater St. Mary Baptist Church for about 65 years, a Worthy Matron for 10 years for Queen Ester #78 and is now the oldest member of the Chapter. She was married to the late Mr. Samuel Branch.
We also had a runner-up, Mrs. Inez Early, who is 97 years old and a member of the St. Mark Baptist Church where she served many years as an usher. She was married to a wonder man, a World War II veteran, the late Mr. Ray Early Sr.
We also honored the oldest Black Man in Jonesville, Mr. Clifford King Sr. who is 88 years old and the oldest member of the St. Peter Baptist Church. He was an offshore worker, a school bus driver, and a farmer for may years. He is married to Mrs. Reather Mae King.
We also had a runner-up Black Man, Mr. Hamp Woods of Wildsville, who is 91 years old. He is a member of Old Daughter Baptist Church. He was a farmer also. He is married to Mrs. Molly Savage Woods.
Life in front of you is far more important than life behind you. Your past is in the past. Work on your future that you may have a long life with Jesus Christ our Savior for God does Bless long life.
