School board faces hard decisions, student numbers falling and money dwindles

Controversy over the possibility of consolidating Catahoula Parish Schools surrounded the school board meeting last Tuesday night. The hiring of Geographic Planning and Demographic Services (GPDS) to prepare options due to anticipated financial shortfalls was on the agenda. School site location analysis, student attendance zones and student count projection studies assist GPDS in recommending adjustments for school districts which can include rezoning or consolidation.

Enjoying time away from school relaxing and time with family has a positive impact on young minds. Everybody wants children to have fun but obviously their safety comes first. Preserving public safety is the number one concern for Jonesville Chief of Police MacArthur Tolliver. To help ensure safety, Jonesville Police Department (JPD) will be strictly enforcing the towns curfew for juveniles at 10:00 pm.

This weekend is Mother’s Day. The day the country salutes mothers. The day families gather together for fellowship and food. The church pews will be filled and florists will run out of flowers as they make their deliveries during this designated day. Families will make plans to spend time together to honor mom for all she does throughout the year.
